The magical touch of Jane Coslick is evident everywhere in her latest restoration, Southern Tides. Her simple, natural approach brings out the beauty of this spacious, welcoming rental house. Wood floors and ceilings, white walls with colorful, "one of a kind" art, and comfortable slip-covered sofas and chairs have Jane's signature look, which she somehow makes unique to the character of each home she decorates. As she puts it, "The wonderful old made new."
When you walk up to the front porch, you'll be tempted to sit and enjoy the charming porch, but resist the urge because you are about to enter a No Stress Zone. The many windows (original to the old house) let in the light and the breeze. And the hand-painted inside window inside says it all, "The Ocean Air makes me declare, I'm lucky to be living on Tybee Time. Amen".
The first floor has an open living/dining/kitchen area with a dining table that easily seats 8 and a kitchen bar with 3 stools. Kitchen colors of gold and turquoise set off the new kitchen floor and appliances. Bring on that low county boil. And relax on the comfortable sofa and chairs and watch TV. The bedroom on this level has two queen beds. There is a separate full bath and a laundry this is no ordinary laundry room. Think turquoise floor, 10 old windows, a table and chairs, sofa, wet bar, refrigerator and TV?who knew laundry could be such fun!
Four bedrooms and a sleeping porch are on the second floor. The Nautilus king is so restful, done in shades of white and off-white, and has a half bath ensuite. The Starfish king has a coral picket fence as a headboard, and has an ensuite full bath with a claw foot tub/shower. The breezy screened-in porch has an old iron bed and an angled view of the Back River. The aptly named Oyster Cluster has four built-in bunk beds (sleeps 8). With a little imagination, it becomes Fort Tybee. Seriously. And the sweet Scalloped Shell bedroom has twin beds. There is also a full bath in the hall with a double vanity and a tub/shower combo, and the lovely little covered porch has a private shower and an adjoining sitting room with a denim slipcovered sofa and a TV.
,p>The beach and the Back River are within walking distance, and the picket fenced-in backyard and pool will be a haven as well. Tables with chairs and lounge chairs complete this restful picture. Watch the children, watch someone grill something delicious, and just relax with a good book out here. Rinse off in the outdoor shower with hot water. Life is good.
The pleasures of Southern Tides are too plentiful to mention in one description. So we are looking forward to our guests' comments about their favorite memories. In the meantime, gather up the family and some friends and come on down. There is room and charm enough for everyone. You'll thank yourself, and they will too!
